What Is a Cataract

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which causes vision to become blurry, hazy, or less colorful. Cataracts typically develop with age but can also result from trauma, certain medications, or medical conditions. Without treatment, they can significantly impair your vision and quality of life.

Restore Clear Vision with Advanced Cataract Treatment Options

Cataract Surgery Options

If cataracts are interfering with your daily activities, cataract surgery is the only effective treatment. At ADV Vision, we offer both traditional and advanced laser-assisted cataract surgery.

Traditional cataract surgery involves a small incision on the side of the cornea. The cataract is broken up using ultrasonic energy (phacoemulsification) and removed from the eye. A clear artificial lens, or intraocular lens (IOL), is then implanted. This method is highly effective and covered by most insurance plans.

Laser-assisted cataract surgery uses a femtosecond laser to make highly precise incisions and to soften the cataract for easier removal. This approach enhances accuracy and safety, particularly for patients selecting premium IOLs. It is blade-free and allows for more consistent outcomes.

Intraocular Lens (IOL) Options

After removing the cataract, your surgeon will implant an intraocular lens (IOL) to restore your vision. Choosing the right IOL is one of the most important steps in achieving your best possible visual outcome.

The Light Adjustable Lens is the first and only FDA-approved IOL that allows for post-surgery customization. After your eye has healed, light treatments performed in-office adjust the lens power to fine-tune your vision.

  • Customizable vision after surgery
  • Ideal for patients seeking the most precise visual outcomes
  • Advanced premium lens technology with a high degree of personalization

Multifocal lenses provide clear vision at multiple distances—near, intermediate, and far. These lenses reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and are ideal for patients with active lifestyles.

  • Premium lens
  • May reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses

Toric lenses are designed for patients with astigmatism. They correct both the irregular curvature of the cornea and distance vision. Near-vision glasses may still be required.

  • Premium lens
  • Specifically for astigmatism correction

Monofocal lenses correct vision at a single distance, typically for distance vision. Reading glasses or bifocals are often still needed for near or intermediate vision.

  • Standard lens covered by insurance
  • Most common type of IOL used in cataract surgery
